Raksha

Who We Are:

Raksha -- meaning "protection" in several South Asian languages -- is a Georgia-based nonprofit organization for the South Asian Community. Raksha's mission is to promote a stronger and healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, education, and advocacy. Guided by values of consensus in decision-making, diversity in leadership, and the dignity and worth of every individual, Raksha strives to empower and serve the South Asian community.

Raksha provides technical assistance to clients in complete appropriate immigration papers that will allow them to work and refers clients to legal resources that can assist in getting them proper immigration status. To benefit our non-English speaking clients, Raksha has networked with several South Asian lawyers who are willing to assist some of our clients on a pro bono or a sliding-scale basis.

To promote cultural sensitivity among local and national social service providers and criminal justice agencies Raksha provides technical assistance to police departments, health care providers, battered women's shelters, and domestic violence agencies such as Women's Resource Center, Newton County Victim-Assistance, Grady Hospital, and City of Atlanta Police Department. Raksha has also been invited to a number of statewide and national conferences to speak on our community's needs.
