Georgia Appellate Practice and Educational Resource Center (Georgia Resource Center)
The Georgia Appellate Practice and Educational Resource Center, Inc. ("Resource Center") was established in 1988 to facilitate the representation of death-sentenced inmates by private attorneys working on a pro bono basis. The Resource Center is responsible for monitoring capital litigation in Georgia, for recruiting law firms and individual attorneys to represent inmates who are in need of counsel, for providing resource assistance to attorneys handling capital cases, and for directly representing inmates where counsel cannot be located. Of the approximately 135 inmates on death row, the Resource Center represents or assists in the representation of over eighty-five persons. The Resource Center is the only organization in Georgia dedicated to insuring access to justice for death-sentenced inmates in the post-conviction process.
