| ATLANTA (GA) - Food stamps recipients who lost food during the recent tornadoes are eligible for replacement benefits. The Division of Family and Children Services Food and Nutrition Program will replace food that was destroyed as a result of the storms that hit Fulton, Dekalb, Polk, Floyd, Bartow, Burke, and Jefferson counties. The replacement also includes food that was lost due to power outages for more than 48 hours.
"We did a survey of the field to determine the extent of need and discovered that there is a need for food stamps replacement benefits," said Batisa Edwards, unit manager, DFCS Food and Nutrition Program. Edwards stressed that those seeking replacement benefits will be required to sign an affidavit attesting the loss.
Residents needing food replacement may apply at their local county DFCS offices. Cabbagetown residents should apply at the Fulton County DFCS-Central City North Service Center, located at 84 Walton St., downtown Atlanta; Vine City residents should apply at the Fulton County-Northwest Service Center, located at 129 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Atlanta. DFCS representatives will also be available at Disaster Recovery Centers March 27 through April 5. The recovery centers were set up by FEMA and GEMA in storm-damaged counties. The DRCs will provide information and services to those seeking various types of aid from a number of local and state agencies.
